Oxnard—The 25th anniversary was solemnly remembered across Oxnard, Ventura County, and across the Nation, on Friday, September 11, as Flags flew at half-staff. Firefighters stood at attention in honor of those lost that day.
IN Oxnard, people stood and honored those always ready to respond to the call to duty at Oxnard Fire Station 6 on Peninsula Boulevard.
Captain Kyle Vondark said everybody’s life changed on September 11.
“I wanted to join the Fire Service,” he said. “I was in High School at that time, and I was at home. We stayed home from school, and we were glued to the television watching the news.”
He decided that day to help.
“I wanted to be part of this when you saw all the sacrifices they made,” he said. “It still has impacts (9/11), and we still have extra staffing and people. We always have training in case something like that were ever to happen again. We’re better prepared now.”
Engineer Colby Hays learned that 9/11 was a horrific morning.
“I was about five when it happened,” he said. “I learned that it was a group of people who took over a few flights and committed a horrible terrorist act on U.S. soil. It’s something that all Americans…
