Oxnard-- It’s Memorial Day weekend, and things were happening across Oxnard. As always, it’s my pleasure to cover the events that celebrate life.
MY weekend started with me going to the Eastside Little League Car Show at La Colonia Park, complete with kids playing baseball, classic cars, food vendors, and plenty of engaged parents working together.
I love covering Little League events because I have fond memories of playing as a child. I started in the outfield and segued to first base, pitcher, catcher, and then back to the outfield. I wasn’t the best hitter, but playing with my teammates was terrific, and so were the lessons about sportsmanship.
Memorial Day itself was special as it meant the return of the commemorative event at Plaza Park. The park looked great, with American Flags everywhere, and a good-sized crowd showed their respect for the heroes who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
As everyone already knows, I am biased since my son is a Technical Sergeant in the Air Force, and he proudly serves every day. My father was a Petty Officer in the United States Navy, and he, too, proudly fought in World War II.
