Oxnard — The Campus Park Activation Project finally got underway Friday, June 26, as the community came out to celebrate the progress of the space.
ELECTED officials and groups responsible for the success turned over the ceremonial first shovel of dirt, and they spoke about plans for the opening in Fall 2027.
Mayor Pro Tem Gabe Teran, who also served as Master of Ceremonies, said the community has been waiting for updates and is thrilled to see the park move forward.
“This predates my time on the City Council, and it predates my time on the Parks and Rec Commission,” he said. “I am proud to be part of the effort to be part of the grant-seeking at the end of the Grant-seeking process, when the City applied for a State grant, and a big part of that was because of the Community engagement. That is the genesis of what we have, and we are breaking ground on today.”
In total, he said, $22 million in grants has been awarded to make Campus Park a reality.
“Because phase one came in lower than the staff anticipated, we’ve been able to incorporate things from later phases into the first phase,” he said. “It’s going a lot farther…
