I am a sucker for sandwiches. They may in fact be my favorite food item to make and to eat. A good sandwich is an entire meal in one convenient and compact design that delivers maximum flavor with minimum effort. If that doesn’t sell you on a sandwich, I got nothing else.
A grilled cheese is one of the hardest sandwiches for me to make. Its not because I struggle with the idea behind it. That is pretty straight forward. Cheese in between bread, grilled in a pan with butter. Its more the execution that has continuously vexed me throughout the years. I always seem to make burnt bread sandwiches. Sometimes, very burnt bread sandwiches. A burnt bread sandwich is an acquired taste that I don’t believe anyone has picked up yet. And a sad waste of life giving bread and cheese. And, since a grilled cheese is one of life’s simple pleasure, it is also super depressing.
So what have I learned after dozens of burnt bread sandwiches? Personally not much but I do know what I’m supposed to do now.
