Council Ratifies Home Depot Foundation Donation

Oxnard— The City Council on Tuesday, June 21, unanimously ratified a $23,500 donation from the Home Depot Foundation to renovate the Colonia Recreation Center.

DEPUTY City Manager Katie Casey opened the action, saying Home Depot volunteers will provide materials and services for the facility improvements at the Colonia Recreation Center and expressed admiration for the Cultural and Community Services Staff for the effort.

“This was all initiated by the Staff to reach out to Home Depot,” she said. “One of our recreation specialists who has worked at the Colonia Recreation Center noticed that it could use some sprucing up.”

Casey said it was a Staff-initiated project, and the Staff is eager for the improvements.

“If you’ve ever worked with Cultural and Community Services Staff, when they get a green light, they go for it,” she said. “We’re asking the Council to ratify the $23,550 donation from the Home Depot Foundation, which has worked in tandem with the local Oxnard store manager, who has a family commitment and he’s not here this evening, and he sent a letter of support on this item.”

She said the Foundation makes awards through gift cards.
