Ventura—The Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution Tuesday, September 22, temporarily waiving watercourse protection permit fees and deposits.
SUPERVISOR Matt LaVere brought the item forward, saying it’s something they’ve been discussing over the last few months.
“We're entering into a significant El Niño season, and I believe we’ll be doing a larger update on this next month,” he said. “I’m really proud the County is stepping up here and taking the lead and encouraging homeowners to do some work, and we want to be partners with that.”
Director Gregg Strakaluse said the item starts with strategic thinking and advance planning, in preparation for a strong El Niño season and forecast.
“In speaking with other Public Works agencies in Southern California, I’m not sure if anyone has taken this action to proactively adopt a resolution to waive Watercourse Protection Permit Fees and Deposits at this time,” he said. “The Watershed Protection District is one of multiple agencies charged with regulating activities in Watershed Channels, and we’ve got about 750 channels in Ventura County.”
The District focuses on ensuring that a project or activity does not impair, divert, or impede the natural flow characteristics of each Channel.
