Oxnard-- I spend a lot of time in the community covering events for a reason. Ultimately, the people are what makes the community move forward, while the local government frames policies to make life thrive.
I CAN’T do that from my computer. I have to get my butt out there, talk to people and be the community’s voice. I’ve been doing this since 2008 when I left the restaurant business in the past.
Okay, with that said, let’s talk about the story selection process and how it moves from my head to the page.
I’ll look at social media posts and see lots of events. Then I’ll break them down by readership potential, how many people plan to attend, and whether or not I’ve written the story before.
There are some stories that I am drawn to, like stories about youngsters working in the community to make it a better place and groups working to protect animals. I’ll cover stories about seniors because they are vital to our community and shouldn’t be filed away and forgotten.
