DISAPPOINTMENT

Oxnard-- I think we can all agree that the rain forecast in the area last weekend was a bust, although I do admit that I come from a place that gets a lot of rain.

WHILE we did get a little bit, it certainly wasn’t enough to celebrate. As a point of reference, I grew up in Freeport, New York, where the average yearly rainfall was around 55 inches.

I understand the excitement about rain in the forecast because we’re in a drought and need the water. Plans were changed because of the forecast, and I’ll admit, when it started to sprinkle during Sk8 Night on top of the parking structure downtown, I thought, perfect, here comes some rain. There was a little rain overnight, it hit the skylight on my house, and it helped me relax and sleep.

When I awoke on Saturday, it looked like more rain was coming; I changed my schedule, delivered the paper, went home, and paid the bills. I was told the scheduled Meet Up Cleanup was canceled at Sk8 Night, and I decided to delay going to the Oxnard Jazz Festival until Sunday with a better weather forecast.

That meant an afternoon…
