Finance & Governance approves Command Vehicle purchases

Oxnard-- The Finance & Governance Committee, Tuesday, December 28, approved the purchase of eight Battalion Chief (BC) Command Vehicle chassis through the National Auto Fleet group for the fire department.

HE approval moves the item to the full city council and recommends that Mayor John Zaragoza executes the purchase order for $419,674 for the vehicles.

Oxnard Fire Chief Alex Hamilton presented the item and said the city’s 2021-2022 budget process approved purchasing the vehicles.

“In part, to replace two of the current front line BC vehicles that will be reassigned to the Assistant Chief rank,” he said. “We’ll replace the Fire Marshall vehicle, and also the Battalion Chief and the Training Chief’s vehicle and additionally replacing a Battalion Chief’s vehicle that was unfortunately removed from service after an accident earlier this year. We’re actually expanding our fleet by three vehicles.”

He said due to a tight deadline, the city received notification about, they worked within the city’s purchasing guidelines to have the mayor sign the purchase order.

“Now, we’re coming to ratify that agreement,” Hamilton said. “We worked through the specifications with the National Auto Fleet group, but we only found out on October 28. There wasn’t enough time…
