Oxnard-- As we head into fall, I have to admit the J-Train and I enjoy candy day, and we’re always ready with plenty of treats for kids.
SAY that with a bit of trepidation this year, as I’m now seeing stories about Fentanyl being disguised as candy, which of course, is dangerous to children.
Parents need to tell kids this Halloween to bring their candy home first so parents can look at their loot. Maybe I’m acting nervous, but I would rather be safe than sorry.
I’m sure the Oxnard Police Department will have a social media campaign promoting safety regarding candy. Kids, let your parents examine your candy. Be smart. Let’s have a safe and happy holiday.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time I’ve seen such warnings. When I was a child living on Long Island, New York, there was a rash of razor blades uncovered inside things like apples. We had to bring our candy home, and I would not fight my mother because if I didn’t listen and got caught, she would take it all away.
