Frosted Thoughts

Oxnard-- It’s funny how a simple change of scenery can remind you just how different things can be. The lesson here is don’t complain.

I’M starting to settle in and get to work, and my new location’s attitude towards the media and public is much different.

For example, trying to do a deep dive on any topic is frowned upon, and when you start digging, you might as well forget it. I’m being told to be patient, and eventually, you will be accepted. The only problem with that is that I’m not looking for acceptance. I want to tell the story, that’s my job, and that’s it.

In Oxnard and Port Hueneme, when something comes up, and I have questions, it means asking and getting an honest answer. It’s that simple. I look at social media posts from my former location about things being kept hidden, and I’ll tell you, try coming somewhere where people will literally ignore you and lie to you to keep things out of the paper.

They might not be an open book, they shouldn’t be, but honesty and transparency are traits that some people take for granted, and it’s not the same everywhere. Try…
