Oxnard—During the Tuesday, September 15, City Council meeting, Manuel Herrera asked the dais to play a video and asked whether Council Member Aaron Starr recruited candidates to run in the 2026 City Council election.
THE video voice said Starr had three hand-picked candidates to run in the 2026 election that would be part of his robust Libertarian agenda.
“These three are John Barrick, running in District One, Lizanne Nanez, running in District Two, and Noemi Corpus, who she said would be running in District Five,” the voiceover said.
“Not only have I been recruiting candidates, but I have been raising money for them,” Starr said in the video.
The voiceover noted that all three candidates were using the same out-of-county treasurer, Korey Wells of Springville, CA.
“There are some questions, and maybe some red flags that have come up,” the video said. “First is an FPPC (Fair Political Practices Commission) investigation into Wells over a ballot measure committee (2025-01106) in the 2024 election, and he admitted to five counts of violating the Political Reform Act.”
