Port Hueneme—It was crocheting and knitting fun on Saturday, Jan. 25, as the kids at Hueneme Bay were making great homemade items for friends and family.
HUENEME Bay is a 55+ community, and Seniors enjoy activities like golf, a pool, and a clubhouse where they can read, relax, do puzzles, and enjoy great activities like the book club.
Rosie Smith is new to the Art Committee; she arrived in Aug. 2024. She went to some Coffees on the Patio and started doing the exercise class.
“I’m organized, and that’s what they need,” she said, and the group agreed. “I do weird little crafts. We did a Holiday Ornament Party, made snowflakes out of clothespins, and did a tye-die class.”
She found the group collegial. She’s tried knitting and weaving and failed.
“I’m good with crafting,” she said. “It’s the journey, not the project.”
Jeannie Rothmann said crocheting is not her thing, and her husband, Alan, sticks with the Coffee on the Patio.

“I paint,” she said. “I’ve always been a crafter; since I retired, I took up watercolors,” she said. “I have crocheted in the past; I didn’t like how it finished, so I gave up.”
