Lawn Bowlers keep on rolling

Oxnard-- the Oxnard-Joslyn Lawn Bowling Club at the Wilson Senior Center, was outdoors pursuing their passion; Saturday, November 27. The group is focused on camaraderie, competition, and the thrill of knocking a bowl away from “The Jack,” a small white ball which people try to get the closest to at the other side of the field of play.

LAWN Bowling, called Lawn Bowls, is played throughout the British Commonwealth on a 120 ft. X 15 ft. rink within a 120 ft. Square green. The bowl is biased, so it can swerve and move back and forth.

Oxnard Lawn Bowling Club President Jack Bucey said the community is welcome to come down and have some fun.

“It’s good exercise; it’s maskless at this point because we’re outdoors, and it’s easy to do,” he said. “We’ll teach you how to do it, and we’ll give you the bowls to use. Come join us.”

He said the sport is not like bowling at a bowling alley.

 

“It’s not like lane bowling where you twist your wrist,” he said. “You throw it straight and let the bowl do the work. The secret to this is practice. We’re here from 9:30 a.m. until 12…
