Oxnard--The City Council ended its Stage Two Water Shortage emergency during its April 18 meeting and replaced it with a Stage One Shortage.
THE action also included new Mandatory Water Conservation Measures pursuant to the City’s Water Shortage Contingency Plan.
Assistant Public Works Director Joseph Marcinko noted that on March 18, 2022; the State Water Project Allocations were reduced from 15 percent to 5 percent by the Department of Water Resources.
“On March 28, 2022, Governor Newsom issued Executive Order N722 directing a number of actions in response to these historic drought conditions,” Marcinko said. On April 26, 2022, the Metropolitan Water District declared a Water Shortage Emergency in State Water Project dependent areas.”
He said the Calleguas Municipal Water District declared a water shortage emergency condition exists within its service area and adopted the Metropolitan Water District’s (MWD) Emergency Water Conservation Program on April 27, 2022.
“On May 17, 2022, the Oxnard City Council proclaimed a local emergency due to the water shortage conditions,” he said.
There has been record-breaking precipitation in California, he said, resulting in “one of the wettest periods on record.”
