OXNARD HONORS WOMEN

Oxnard—During his Tuesday, March 4 City Council meeting, the group took a few minutes to the League of Women Voters Ventura County to honor Women’s History Month.

The League of Women Voters is a “nonpartisan American nonprofit political organization. Founded in 1920, its ongoing major activities include registering voters, providing voter information, boosting voter turnout, and advocating for voting rights. Additionally, the LWV works with partners for specific campaigns, including support for campaign finance reform, women’s rights, health care reform, and gun control.”

League of Women Voters Co-President Kathy Morgan thanked Mayor Luis McArthur for recognizing Women’s History Month.

“The League of Women Voters grew out of the suffrage movement, and last month, we celebrated our 115th Anniversary,” she said. “Women’s suffering was a long, bitter fight, and after 72 years, Women who never held public lives were emboldened to speak out, march in the streets, and protest. The lessons learned influenced American social justice and advocacy movements.”

Today, she said they educate Women Voters about the candidates and encourage Government participation.
