Oxnard-- In a report to the City Council Tuesday, June 21, Public Works Director Michael Wolfe said the drought saga has arrived, and in the past, they’ve talked about the situation being a flexible environment.
“WE do not have any ratifications tonight, but I wanted to let you know that we are working on a couple,” he said. “These are really directives or requirements from some of our providers, whether it’s the State of California itself through Met (Metropolitan Water District) and Calleguas Municipal Water District. Two things we are working on right now are duration and how much time folks have to water using irrigation outside, from 15 to 10 minutes. We’ll make that a director’s order and bring that back for ratification.”
He said the state has directed that there is no irrigation of non-functional turf for commercial, industrial, or institutional zoned properties.
“That is a directive from the state, which is an addition to our restrictions,” he said. “We’ll be adding that to a future director’s order.”
He said they’ve only been tracking its operations and water usage since June 1, but they are tracking in the right direction and have made some operational changes.
