Oxnard—The City Council will consider its Park Bench and Tree Donation Program at its next City Council meeting.
ASSISTANT Public Works Director Steve Howlett presented the item, and he said the Department has received inquiries from residents about purchasing memorials at Ormond Beach Park to honor a family member and a tree at any City Park to honor victims of domestic violence.
“The City does not have a formal program for residents to donate these items,” he said. “Therefore, the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission formed an ad hoc committee in February 2025 to research other municipal donation programs, determine which items should be included in the donation program, the language for donation plaques, and the terms of the donation.”
He said the members of the ad hoc committee include the commission chair and vice chair. Staff worked with the ad hoc committee to compile information from other Cities and add the recommendations of the ad hoc committee to create a Draft Park Bench and Tree Donation Program, and staff requested the City Council consider this program.
