Revenue loss in Port Hueneme surrounds name change

Port Hueneme-- The City Council’s discussion about changing Port Hueneme’s name to Hueneme Beach, March 25, continues with public comments from Realtor Steven Placial, who said he moved to the area 10 years ago and loves the city.

“STEVE Kinney gave a great presentation on the information, and the people who have been calling in had a lot of great information for me to intake,” Placial said. “I think, five or six years ago, before cannabis came, we were not doing so well as a city. I think sustainability is really important for us. I don’t want to overcrowd our city as well, but the windfall of the cannabis that we’ve had, I think, has put us back on track, and I think we should be looking for the next thing that could possibly help us keep replenishing the beaches. The sand dredging, I think five or six years ago, we did not get that funded, and the waves were breaking in up in front of Surfside 1.”

Councilmember Laura Hernandez asked Kinney what actions the city has taken to increase tourism and improve its economic development plan.
