Ventura-- The Board of Supervisors, Tuesday, December 7, held a second public hearing and adopted an ordinance repealing and reenacting Division 4, Chapter 7, Article 3, of the county ordinance code pertaining to solid waste collection and disposal.

HE action makes the ordinance exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
Ventura County Public Works Agency Water and Sanitation Director Joe Pope presented the item to the Supervisors and said the updated solid waste ordinance is necessary for the unincorporated areas of the County to comply with Senate Bill 1383, the Climate Pollutants Bill.
“The bill is a requirement to divert food waste being landfilled and requiring operational changes and capital improvements where solid waste is hauled,” he said. “It expands and modifies existing facilities, and new programs such as food waste recovery, education, and enforcement.”
He said the new regulations require that the County update its code of ordinances. The update is provided as a clean copy and tracks changes for the Board’s review and feedback.
