The Flag highlights Memorial Day Ceremony

Oxnard-- The Memorial Day event at Plaza Park Monday, May 29, continues with Mayor John Zaragoza giving the Veterans Memorial Committee a proclamation for their work and telling the crowd that Memorial Day honors men and women who lost their lives while serving their County.

"WE stand here behind the Veterans Memorial, which contains numerous names of people who sacrificed their lives for Freedom,” he said. “As I see the beautiful skies here at Plaza Park and the flags flying from West to East, it’s gratifying for me to see that.”

Harbor Commissioner Jesse Herrera served the United States as an 18-year-old and serves the Community today.

Herrera called upon Commissioners Jesse Ramirez and Celine Zacarias and noted that May is Veteran’s Month.

“In honor of Veteran’s Month, Port Hueneme, which has always been a central hub in the economy and critical to our National Defense, we’re happy to recognize our Military today,” Herrera said. “The Port of Hueneme has been active in every war since World War II, and the Oxnard Harbor District has an agreement that helps with our strategic planning.
