Utility Bill help reduce family burden

Oxnard--The Public Works and Transportation Committee’s preliminary refuse cost of Service report continues with Assistant Public Works Director Brian Yanez saying total revenues in the Environmental Resources Department were more than expenses.

THE rate study proposes an increase of up to $58.59 for a monthly 96-gallon service.

“In 2024, our model project, our expenditures exceed our revenues significantly,” he said.

He reviewed Model Sensitivity one with no rate adjustment and full capital expenditures.

“This includes capital, and with no rate adjustment, the Environmental Resources cash balances are estimated to fall negative as soon as the fiscal year 2024-2025,” he said.

He said Model Sensitivity Two has rate adjustments but no Capital Expenditures.

“These proposed rates will be discussed by our consultant at all the public meetings in detail,” he said.

 

He noted that scenario one, with a rate adjustment and reduced capital expenditures, shows a residential rate of $44.94 for 2025. The current rate is $30.78.

Consultant Thierry Boveri from Rafetelis led the cost-of-service study and noted the environmental resources are not like other governmental services.
