Oxnard– The City Council appointed Noemi Valdes to the Measure O Oversight Committee during their Tuesday, June 21 meeting.

THE oversight committee is made up of nine members who must be over 18 and reviews the use of Measure O Funds approved by the council.

Project Manager Samantha Shapiro presented the appointment to the council and said Valdes would serve in District 2.

“One member is appointed at large by the mayor; six members are appointed by district,” she said. “One member must be active in a business organization, and one member must be active in a neighborhood council.”

She said Councilman Gabe Teran nominated Valdes for the Oversight Committee.

“I want to thank Miss Valdes for wishing to be on the Measure O Citizen Oversight Committee,” Teran said. “When the former District Two appointee stepped down from the position, she was the first person who came to mind. I approached her, and she was absolutely willing to do so. I appreciate the support of my colleagues, and she is a really great candidate for this role, and I think she’ll do amazing things.”

Teran said Valdes is also involved with her neighborhood council and a director at the Oxnard School District.

“She does some really great stuff for the community,” Teran said.

Councilman Bert Perello noted that Valdes would get a year of back meeting minutes so she could familiarize herself with the group.
