Oxnard-- Wilson Senior Center attendees enjoyed a light and fluffy treat Monday, September 26, as the group celebrated and enjoyed National Pancake Day with lots of flapjacks, syrup, bacon, butter, and plenty of fresh coffee.
THE group did what it does best; enjoy friends, play games like dominoes, and have a lively and fun conversation.
National Pancake Day got its start in 2005 and was known initially as Lumberjack Day. Marianne Ways and Collen AF Venable wanted an event to eat pancakes and waffles with friends, which led to the celebration.
Wilson Senior Center Director Jessica Serrano made the pancakes and was enjoying her morning over the hotcake griddle with the ladies in the kitchen.
“Some of them decided to donate, so we’re going to have bacon on the menu,” she said. “We have turkey bacon and regular bacon.”
She and the entire kitchen staff worked on the breakfast and rolled out a big feast that seniors lined up for and enjoyed.
“We’re going for two pancakes each, and we’ll see what we have left over,” she said.
