9/11 Ceremony this Monday

Oxnard-- In his report to the City Council Tuesday, September 5, City Manager Alex Nguyen said the Oxnard Fire Department’s 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony takes place at all eight Fire Stations starting at 6:45 a.m. when the fire apparatus (trucks) are positioned on the Station ramps.

“Not only will the Fire Department be conducting these ceremonies, they’re inviting members of the public if anyone has time,” he said. “At 6:55 a.m., they’ll stand at attention in silence as the American Flag is raised and lowered to half-staff.”

He said they’ll continue to maintain silence, and at 6:59 a.m., they’ll send a special tone over the Fire radio followed by four sets of five bells.

“This will be followed by one minute of complete silence, and the time coincides with the collapse of the World Trade Center’s South Tower,” Nguyen said. “The bells are a tradition used by the Fire Service to commemorate Firefighters who’ve lost their lives in the line of duty. Everyone is welcome to your local Fire Station.”

He said the Fire Department continues to offer free smoke detectors, which save lives.
