ADU Building Permit Approved

Ventura— On a split vote, the City Council, on Tuesday, 4, approved an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) garage at 101 North Santa Rosa Street.

City Clerk Michael MacDonald reviewed the procedure for the Quasi-Judicial item and turned it over to Community Development Director Rachael Diamond, who said the property is located at the southwest corner of Sant Rosa.

“There are two existing dwelling Units on the site, including one two-story building, built in 1948,” she said. “There is a two-car garage and two surface parking spaces in the driveway. The lot size is just under 4,000 square feet.”

The application was submitted on Aug. 8, 2023, and she said the Chief Building Official issued Building Permit RESP-08-23-1769 on Nov. 12, 2024.

“The permit includes converting the 350 sq. feet two-car garage into an 838 two-story ADU with a 278- foot ground floor storage and laundry room,” she said. “The Staff required the applicant to label setbacks in the proposed buildings, ensuring compliance with zoning regulations and including the new ADU which is subject to the five-foot sideyard setback.”

She said the final permit was issued on Nov. 12, 2024.
