Alex Nguyen leads the way forward

Oxnard—The Tri County Sentry sat down for an open, frank, and transparent conversation with City Manager Alex Nguyen on Thursday, March 6, to discuss a range of topics varying from the new City Council, roads, crime Heritage Square, roads, and the new Homeless Shelter along with reflections on Alex’s six years guiding Oxnard.

Gonzales Road received a makeover in 2024, which delayed traffic but was worth it.

“We’d have more streets and alleys complete, and we have to use our reserves to rehabilitate them,” he said. “Aaron Starr and Moving Oxnard Forward is slowing the process down dramatically.

Nguyen was hired in July 2018 and had to deal with a financial crisis. Oxnard faced aging infrastructure, roads below standard, nonprofitable operations facing closure, the PACC, Golf Course, and a rundown City Administration building, among other problems.

Alex had hot Chocolate during our coffee and took on the homeless head-on.

“We can have our many fine caregiving organizations provide us with updates,” he said when asked. “One challenge we had was the resources we have within the Oxnard Policy Department; we have a staffing shortage, but our Homeless Liaison Officers are out there dealing with the problem.”
