Public Works Director Michael Wolfe said the City doesn’t have special equipment or a specialty location, like a paint booth, and they have been contracting this out for several years.
Oxnard–The Public Works and Transportation Committee, on Tuesday, February 24, unanimously approved its Fleet Services agreement for light and medium-duty paint and body.
Fleet Services Manager Jose Arreola presented the agreement with Auto Body International, which is valued at $1.5 million, for an initial term from March 23, 2026, until March 22, 2027, with the option for four additional one-year terms ending March 22, 2031.
The Fleet Services Division (Fleet) of the Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s fleet, which includes 983 pieces of equipment, valued at $60 million as of March 3, 2026.
“To support ongoing fleet operations, Fleet requires an on-call contractor for automotive body repairs for City vehicles and equipment, as needed,” he said. “The Fleet shop lacks the specialized equipment for maintaining and repairing the City’s fleet, and the Fleet Department lacks the permitted spray booth necessary to complete the repairs.”
