Balanced Budget presented in Oxnard

Oxnard—The City Council heard the great 2025-2026 Budget Tuesday, June 15, which focuses on restoring lost services, most notably for kids and Seniors.

The City has come a long way from its $9.2 million Budget deficit from 2020-2022, which meant laying off 30 employees. Measure E helped them recover.

The Council approved its five-year priorities, which included restoring some of its programs, such as maintaining parkways, medians, streams, and alleys, as well as reviving youth and Senior programs, the permit process, and investing in cybersecurity for the first time.

The Oxnard Amazon fulfillment center came online, which helped boost the City’s general fund revenues, creating 1,500 community jobs.

Assistant City Manager Eric Sonstegard proudly presented the Budget and stated that 56.3 percent of the property taxes are allocated to the schools.

“Approximately 31 percent of our revenue each year comes from our property taxes,” he said. “The largest portion of the tax goes to the schools, followed by the County. The City does not have any oversight over the local schools or the funding they receive.”

He said the City receives approximately 17 percent of every dollar.
