Book signing enchants seniors

Ventura—Families and Seniors came to Cypress Place Senior Living on Sunday, March 22, to hear author Janet Morrante read Jennalynn’s Mabuhay Adventure.

JANET said Mabuhay means to live. Attendees also got the chance to sample Filipino culture.

“Mabuhay is the trademark of the Philippines, and it means to hang loose and have good vibes,” she said. “Not everyone knows it means to live. It is a welcoming gesture and means to have a long life.”

She said Jennalynn’s Mabuhay Adventure came to life this past January.

“I had been in business for over 20 years, making party favors, and the thought came into my brain, and I decided to look at my own culture,” she said. “We’re all still learning. I don’t speak my own language, and I felt the need to speak some of the words, and I thought, what better way than to put it in a book, and help other people like me pronounce words.”

 

She’s most proud of having a glossary, where children can spell out how to educate themselves about Filipino culture.
