CCS Programs Enrich community

Oxnard—The Cultural and Community Services Workshop continues with its Library Division, including homework assistance, Literacy, and ESL (English as a second language) programs.

“Whether it is providing homework assistance for students, one-on-one tutoring for adults, or ESL classes, these services directly support educational equity and workforce readiness,” Assistant Director Rene Rakestraw said. “The stability program provides assistance and environmentally friendly practices.”

Programs include sewing and mending, food to the table, gardening, and she said a seed library is available.

“These were offered with over 2,000 participants,” she said. “Workforce Development Programs are offered in programs such as ESL classes, a conversation club, job skills building, as well as tech tutoring, as the recent and first workforce development.”

Challenges with the Library Division include the current reinvention effort.

“These challenges include technology upgrades, accessibility improvements, space design, security systems, policy updates, and addressing these challenges is essential to modernizing library services,” she said. “While great strides have been taken, there is a long way to go in this process.”
