Channel Islands-- The Fourth of July started off in a grand way on Monday, as the Channel Islands Harbor Family Parade was an event that left everyone ready to celebrate American Independence.
KIDS of all ages came out with strollers, bicycles, walking shoes, and plenty of dogs. The humans and pets were decked out in their favorite red, white and blue outfits marking the occasion.
Dutch Dehaan served as one of the Parade’s Grand Marshalls, and he said they had the Parade in 2021, and it was successful despite the Covid-19 restrictions.
“We had a pretty good group show up last year, but it’s nice to have fewer restrictions this year, and we’re hoping for a great crowd with this beautiful weather,” he said.
Dutch called himself a parking lot attendant and focused on organizing the participants.
“We try to look at safety and make sure we keep the carts away from the people,” he said. “There are a lot of people on the road, and we want to keep them safe. I remind them of a few safety cues so we can get them out safely.”
