CHLOE AND KATY

ARE SWEETHEARTS SEARCHING FOR THEIR FUREVER HOME

Ventura– The featured Cats at Cassie’s Cats this month is Chloe, who loves being petted, and Katy, who is naturally curious.

THE pair came from the Camarillo Animal Shelter, where they were adopted but returned to the Shelter. Cassie’s Cats Founder Jennifer Thompson brought them to her Lounge to find their perfect match.

She said Cloe and Katy are “real sweethearts” adjusting to life at Cassie’s Cats.

Jennifer said Chloe is a unique white and gray Cat with a little gray patch over her eye that makes her look like Petey from the Little Rascals.

“Other people say she looks like the Target dog or Spuds MacKenzie,” Jennifer said. “Chloe and her sister Katy are just about four years old.

When she heard about Chloe and Katy, Jennifer had to help.

“We got a message from the Camarillo

Animal Shelter that they were reaching capacity on how many Cats and Kittens they could take,” she said. “They said we have this pair of sisters who were adopted, have lived together, and recently returned to the Shelter.”

Jennifer said the pair is venturing into the Lounge more and more and doing well.

“They are really nice Cats and seem to really like being petted and want to rub against us,” she said. “They know what it’s like to live in a home, have an owner, and be loved.”

She called the pair sweet and loving Cats that are missing the person who will love them.

Jennifer said when Cats get rehomed; some can move from house to house and be resilient, but others can feel disrupted by the move.

“With these two girls, they don’t seem traumatized, but they seem nervous,” she said. “They seem like they are looking around and are trying to figure out what happened; why are we here, who are all these other Cats? This isn’t where we live.”

Jennifer said Chloe and Katy were not returned to the Shelter because something was wrong.

“They are healthy Cats, have good behavior, use their litter box, eat well, and are friendly with people,” she said. “I think they were returned to the Shelter because of a human issue. The humans could no longer have these Cats at home.”

She said any Cat new at the Lounge starts in their own space, allowing them time to become acclimated.

“We have kennels and larger pens,” she said. “We have a pretty large space; we call it our “Catdio.”

We separate the

Cats when they first get here so they can decompress, and we can assess them a little bit and get used to the smells and the sounds of the Lounge. Other Cats can come and see them from a safe distance.”

The adjustment time depends on the Cats.

“The Cats are pretty good at telling us when they are ready to start exploring the Lounge,” Jennifer said. “Some Cats are ready as soon as they get here, but that’s not typical. Chloe and Katy have been here about a week and have started venturing out into the Lounge. When we leave at night, we make sure they go into their pen together, so we know they feel safe and secure.”

She said once her team sees that they’re feeling more confident, they are allowed in the Lounge as much as they want.

She called Chloe and Katy a pair of curious Cats.

“They come out and sniff around,” Jennifer said. “We have Bird TV for the Cats, and Chloe has already discovered Bird TV and is definitely curious about that. They seem pretty mellow and are not trying to cause any trouble with other Cats. They love getting visits from the volunteers and visitors at the Lounge. We’d like to get them back into a home as soon as possible.”

She said the Camarillo Shelter did not have notes about their former home, so she has no idea if they are Dog friendly.

The pair have hearty appetites.

“We give our Cats wet food twice a day, and they have access to dry food twice a day,” Jennifer said.

A family had visited the Lounge Saturday, June 25, and they stayed in their pen during the visit.

“It was a little bit too much noise for them, and they’re still getting used to being here,” she said. “They’ll probably do well with older kids who have been around Cats. A wild house may be hard on the Cats.”

She said it’s too soon to tell if they’ll be good lap Cats.

“Chloe has tried to climb up in my lap a couple of times when I’m sitting on the floor,” Jennifer said. “She is craving affection and attention. There’s a good chance that she’ll be more of a cuddler. Katy hasn’t shown us that yet, but that doesn’t mean she is not a cuddler. She’s just more cautious.”

She wants Chloe and Katy to stay together, as they are bonded sisters.

“It would be a situation where somebody might go from one Cat to three Cats if they bring them home,” Jennifer said. “It might be easier for a home that already doesn’t have a Cat and bring these two in and have an instant family.”

Jennifer said they’d do well in a working home as they can keep each other company.

“They would be okay alone for some of the day, but not 12-14 hours,” she said.

Jennifer loves them because they are nice, friendly Cats.

“For no fault of their own, they went from a home where they were well taken care of to being back at the Shelter,” she said. “I feel bad for them. they are nice Cats who would appreciate being back in a home again.”

People who want to adopt Chloe and Katy start with a meet-and-greet.

“We have an online application, and if we have any questions, we’ll clarify those questions,” she said. “We reserve the right to do a home check for health and safety, making sure it is an appropriate place for the Cats. If that all goes well, people come in, sign the agreement and take the Cats home.”

Jennifer said as Cassie’s Cats rolls into its second year, they are already ahead of their pace.

“Last year, we were still new,” she said. “We’ve had eight adoptions this month which is terrific.”

The Lounge hosted a yard sale on June 25, featuring lots of donations and volunteers working and supporting the Cats and making sure there are plenty of funds to care for the Cats. The event raised $850.

“Kittens can easily eat 1.5-2 cans of food a day,” she said. “Those cans of food can easily cost $1.25 per can. “If you have a litter of four kittens, you can easily go through 6-8 cans a day, plus the litter. We get a great rescue price when we take them to get fixed at the Humane Society in Ojai, but it adds up.”

Jennifer said they’re planning a puzzle tourney in August.

“Stay tuned,” she said.
