Ventura—The City of Ventura’s Main Street Plan story continues with maintaining the existing closure under the existing code.

The agreement, loaded with amendments and timelines, stipulates that restrooms remain open, drawing praise from the crowd.

The Body also approved its RRM Design Group to create and complete a vision plan and a Capital Improvement/ Implementation Plan for the Main Street Moves Area.

Community Development Director Rachel Diamond said the goal is to reopen Main Street by November 3 and restore the full vehicle/bike access, with 196 parking spaces reactivated.

“We want to remove all parklets by October 15, due to sightline laws and rebuild fortified parklets,” she said. “Then, we’ll adjust to accommodate open streets, including landscaping, lighting, signage, and traffic calming(curb extensions, planters, and bollards).”

She said it will restore vehicle access, parking, and circulation for businesses and customers.

“However, it reduces the pedestrian areas’ public space, and placemaking with a $3.478 million, plus future improvements.

Gold Coast Bus Service will no longer operate on Main Street, but they want to continue service on Santa Clara. Removing the parklets gives the City the ability to clean up and restripe the streets.
