Conflicted commissioners’ decision likened to being hypocritical

Oxnard-- The story about the Oxnard Planning Commission’s rejection of Oxnard Holistics’ Special Use Permit (SUP) to open a retail cannabis operation at 1015 Harbor Blvd continues with public comments.

The Commission voted 3-3 with one abstention, but without a majority, the item failed. The parent company, TD Enterprise, has 18 days to file an appeal with the Oxnard City Council.

Anthony Mireles from the West Ventura County Business Alliance told the Commission that he supports the Special Use Permit for Oxnard Holistics.

“Oxnard Holistics is a member in good standing that has worked hard to be part of the community,” he said. “They have partnered with organizations like Cal Pal (California Police Activities League), plus donated PPE for a food distribution event in the Southwinds Neighborhood during the Delta surge. This is the only proposed location on the west side of Oxnard, and Oxnard is leaking tax dollars to Port Hueneme at the moment because those are the closest shops for the beach community. We want our tax dollars to stay in Oxnard. Approving an SUP from a high-quality applicant is the way to keep local dollars in Oxnard.”
