Council approves real property transactions

Oxnard--The City Council approved the acquisition of 418 West Fourth Street from Sunflow during its Tuesday, December 5 meeting.

The action also approved the sale of 418 West Fourth Street in Downtown Oxnard.

The acquisition does not constitute a CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) project.

Housing Director Emilio Ramirez presented the transaction to the Council and said its purchase price is $430,000, the City’s appraisal value.

“We’re going to assemble it with the balance of the vacant land around it and produce an affordable housing mixed-use project on that site,” he said.

He said the former Gull Wings building on West Fourth Street, where the Children’s Museum was located, was declared surplus property by the City Council.

“We have an offer from the same Sunflow, who will rehabilitate the property and use it for a Senior Wellness Center,” Ramirez said.

The City’s acquisition will be made with money from the Housing in Lieu Fees Fund for $75,000 to make the difference in what the City owes the seller.

During Public Comments, Pat Brown said there aren’t enough parks for the children who live in her neighborhood.
