Council Members busy over Holidays

Oxnard--In his Council update Tuesday, January 4, Councilman Bert Perello hoped everyone had a good holiday and said that he’s ready to get back to normal business.

"THERE is an item on the agenda tonight that deals with Downtown, and it deals with restrooms,” he said. “As you get to a certain age in life, there will come a time when you need to use a restroom in a public area, and there may not be a restroom, and you do what you can do. If you’re fortunate enough, you never experience losing that need. We need to come to a decision about where we are going to put a public restroom. At one time, they were supposed to be in the parking lot, and when the parking structure was built, the City changed its mind.”

He said the Downtown Improvement District worked with a private organization and got its own toilets.

“The owner of the toilets stopped wanting to rent to the City because various individuals, I would say vandals, some would say homeless, some people would say thugs, were destroying the property,” he said. “They stopped renting them to the Downtown.”
