County redistricting meeting tries to strike a balance

Ventura-- The Ventura County Board of Supervisors, Tuesday, November 9, held a public hearing about redistricting the county and requested that maps 77412 with modifications and map 78227 move forward with tweaks.

Those maps will be re-examined on November 16.

The supervisors received draft alternatives for supervisorial maps pertaining to the county and provided direction to the staff.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mike Powers led the meeting and introduced Public Information Officer Ashley Bautista, who outlined the community engagement efforts. Bautista said the county kicked off its outreach program in August with five community meetings.

“We also launched our redistricting website in English and Spanish,” she said. “At that time, we did outreach with our local libraries, including the Ventura County Library, Oxnard Library system, and Blanchard Library, and now community members can go to the Thousand Oaks Library as well.” She said presentations were also provided to the Complete Reach Committee, comprised of all the CEOs that provided outreach for the census and vaccines.
