Covid-19 Emergency ending February 28

Oxnard-- In his report to the City Council Tuesday, January 3, City Manager Alex Nguyen said California’s Covid-19 emergency would end Tuesday, February 28.

"THIS is a reminder,” he said. “Sometime last year, the Governor announced that he would be terminating the State of Emergency in the State of California as of the end of February this year. That’s less than two months away.”

He said as of Friday, December 16, St. John’s reached 97 percent bed capacity.

“They reached out to our Fire Chief and asked for our potential need for our Paramedics to provide backup to them,” he said.

The ambulance patient offload times at the hospitals were 25 minutes, he said, five minutes longer than usual.

“We’re unfortunately on an uptick for various illnesses, including Covid-19,” he said. “Following the news over New Year’s weekend, there is now another sub-variant sweeping the East Coast. I’m not sure that we are entirely out of the woods yet. I want people to be aware of the situation at St. John’s currently.”
