Oxnard-- The Community Services Public Safety Housing & Development Committee, Tuesday, September 27, approved the Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drone) Ordinance in the City.
DRONES are used for law enforcement, firefighting inspections, environmental monitoring, and disaster management.
Commander Rocky Marquez presented the item’s video and said Drones are becoming integrated into airspace for commercial, recreational, and public safety purposes.
“An increased number of commercial businesses are now using Drone technology, including outdoor photography, surveying, visual inspection of infrastructure, and real estate,” he said. “In the near future, the City of Oxnard may also expect to encounter retailers who wish to use Drone technology to speed up package delivery.”
He noted the Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.) must meet significant standards and use requirements for Drones. The F.A.A. regulates Drones by the use of commercial pilots under the code of Federal Regulation title 14, chapter 1, subchapter F, part 107.
“It’s more commonly referred to as part 107,” he said. “These regulations can only be enforced by the F.A.A. Conversely, hobbyists have significantly fewer requirements imposed on them for operating Drones.
