Ventura—The Board of Supervisors, Tuesday, August 24, received and filed a report related to disposing of fire debris from the Palasades and Eaton Fires into the Simi Valley Landfill.
Supervisor Janice Parvin brought the item forward and brought forward Rob Mullane with the Resource Management Agency RMA to introduce the report.
“There was a State Emergency declared by the Governor in response to the LA County Fires back in January, and part of that Emergency Declaration was that the fire debris needed a place to be properly disposed of,” Mullane said. “The RMA manages and monitors, and that goes to the decision makers.”
When we have emergency declarations, he said they can take more rapid action at the Staff level.
“On the Planning side, we process an emergency use authorization, and on the Environmental Health side, under our authority is the local enforcement agency,” he said. “We process requests for emergency waivers.”
He said there were certain conditions imposed on the landfill that allowed it to be modified and temporarily altered in response to emergencies.
