Food Forward supports area farmers

Oxnard-- Farmers gathered en masse at the Oxnard PAL Sunday, November 6, as a large group of people gathered to distribute food to farmers still feeling the effects of Covid within their community.

CARS were lined up, and volunteers diligently distribute fresh fruit and vegetables to needy families that truly appreciated the help.

Spokesperson Robert Martinez said area farmers will always step up to help their fellow farmers, and there is still a huge need to help people because of the effects of Covid-19.

“This is still a huge need for people who need food because of the pandemic,” he said. “They need all the help they can get.”

Food Forward donated the food, and they had 15 pallets of food ready to distribute to families. Food Forward is a nonprofit organization that brings fresh surplus fruits and vegetables to people experiencing food insecurity across 12 California counties and six adjacent states, including tribal lands.

“We have fruit and vegetables,” he said. “Things are getting better slowly, but if everyone helps, it will get better faster.”

Martinez said he got involved because of his church, Saint Anthony’s Church.
