Port Hueneme--The Housing Authority Board received a Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) update and unanimously authorized the formation of a non-profit organization during its Monday, December 4 meeting.
HUENEME Housing Inc. will perform its services, and the City Council members will be the Board of Directors. Staff will also help to avoid any additional costs.
Housing and Facilities Maintenance Director Gabby Basua presented the RAD update to the Board and said she showed the presentation to the City Council in 2019.
“The Council at the time, in 2019, authorized us to go ahead and enter into a CHAP (Commitment to Housing Assistance Payments) with HUD, and that has been done,” she said.
RAD is a powerful tool developed by HUD to preserve and improve public housing properties, she said, and to address the $26 billion nationwide backlog of deferred maintenance.
“Public housing in the City of Port Hueneme consists of 90 units,” she said. “It consists of 30 units at Hueneme Village and 60 units at Mar Vista. It’s 20 one-bedroom apartments at Mar Vista and 40 studios.”
She said Hueneme Village has four one-bedroom units, 12 two-bedroom units, and 14 three-bedroom units.
