Port Hueneme-- The Citizen Advisory Committee Monday, October 9, reviewed the 2023 Hueneme Beach Festival financials, and the City lost $46,000.
THE Committee voted to move forward with an RFP (Request for Proposals) for vendor selection, which could take up to a month, moving forward and discussed how to package the event in 2024.
Committee Member Steven Auclair said the event’s date should be considered moving forward.
“One major event we need to avoid conflicting with is Ventura County Pride, the largest LBGTQ+ Pride event in the County, which is not held in June, during Pride month,” he said. “The Fourth of July eliminates that period, so basically, we’re dealing with mid to late July. We also have some overtime that we’d like to avoid because public safety does happen around the Fourth of July, so that could be a consideration. “
Deputy City Manager Charles Peretz presented the report and said the commission is charged with reviewing large-scale city-sponsored events, and the Council is interested in the financial impact of the 2023 Hueneme Beach Festival and the best way to manage the event moving forward.
