JUNETEENTH Celebration unites Oxnard

Oxnard--The City of Oxnard came together for the 32nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration Saturday, June 17, at Plaza Park.

THE free event celebrates the 1865 historical Proclamation of Freedom from Slavery in Texas and welcomed The Buffalo Soldier Mounted Cavalry Unit showcasing American Soldiers from the era.

Featured guests included SiDerek Rose & Praise Band, the VC College Jazz Band, the CreARTive Freedom Family, Sade Champaign, the Sunday Morning Praise Band, and the Women of the West.

Lawrence Lee brought his Mobile Museum representing real people who served in the Military along with some people who performed Public Service as Firemen and Police Officers.

“This is about heroes, honoring ex-Military, regardless of ethnic statements,” he said. “I created this to show the diversity that we have in the Military and Public Service. It exemplifies that it takes all of us to work together to make America great.”

 

He’s taken marginalized people incapable of doing things and cited Cathay Williams, who changed her name to William Cathay and fought alongside Men in combat during the Civil War.
