Ventura—During its Monday, Dec. 10 meeting, the City Council unanimously approved Tony Lee as its Interim Police Chief.
The City has been recruiting a new Chief since Darin Schindler retired, effective Monday, Dec. 29.
Human Resources Director Valarie Barroso said the recruitment process is expected to last about four months, and Lee has specialized skills related directly to the interim assignment.
“Mr. Lee held the position with the UCLA Police Department, overseeing one of the largest University Police Departments in the Nation,” she said. “Before joining UCLA Police, Mr. Lee served for 26 years with the Beverly Hills Police Department and finished his career as the second in command.”
Lee told the Council he was honored and humbled to lead the City of Ventura Police Department temporarily.
“Being from L.A. County Law Enforcement, I will tell you I’ve never heard anything but great things about Ventura,” he said. “The men and women of the Police Department do a fabulous job with the technology and Crimefighting efforts. It was an easy yes for me to come over here and step into this role briefly.”
He promised to help in every way possible to find a new Chief to replace Schindler.
