Maintenance Building engineering okay’d

Oxnard--The City Council approved an agreement with Roesline Nakamura Terada Architects for Architecture and Engineering Services during its Tuesday, December 5 meeting.

The agreement is for engineering services for the Wastewater Division’s new maintenance building project.

Luis Ortega from the Public Works Wastewater Division presented the agreement, which costs $1 million for Architectural and Engineering services.

“The existing Wastewater Treatment Plant building was constructed in 1978, and the 9,032 square foot structure contains office space, a break room, a paint booth, a machine shop, equipment, storage, locker rooms, and other employee services,” he said. “The original design was based on one-third of the current staff size and is no longer suitable for modern operations.”

He said the plumbing, roof, and electric systems have reached the end of their useful life and require expensive maintenance efforts or stay inoperable.

“The concrete masonry building structure does not meet current building seismic code,” he said.

The Wastewater maintenance building houses staff and equipment needed for daily plant repairs.
