Mariposa agreement approved

Oxnard--The City Council approved agreement 324000240 with Mariposa Landscapes on Tuesday, November 7, for 37 landscape maintenance districts and one maintenance assessment district.

The agreement authorizes Mayor John Zaragoza to execute the deal for up to five years in an amount not to exceed $9 million, which includes all possible extensions for the five-year maximum term ending December 31, 2028.

Special Districts Project Manager Anthony Miller presented the report and said the Special Districts Division of the Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and administration of Oxnard’s Special Districts, including 37 Landscape Maintenance Districts (LMD) and one Maintenance Assessment District (MAD-4).

“The LMDs were formed under the Landscaping and Lighting Act of 1972 to help fund the ongoing maintenance of various public improvements within new developments,” he said.

Miller said MAD-4 was formed pursuant to the Improvement Act of 1911 to recover costs of the City’s maintenance of the 36-acre beach area, in addition to the landscaping within the public’s right-of-way in tract No. 2923.
