Nguyen outlines well Functioning City

Oxnard—The City Council, on Tuesday, February 3, heard a presentation from City Manager Alex Nguyen about how the City operates.

He said the City Workshops benefit new Council Members and serve as a reminder to the general public of what the departments do in the community.

“These assist in guiding the City Council as later this year, when we update the City’s five-year priorities,” he said. “We’re hoping these workshop presentations that have happened across a series of Council meetings provide an overview and provide an essence of what’s most important about what’s available in our departments.”

He said that Oxnard is a general law City, and with that, it also operates under a City Manager form of Government, which almost all Cities do in California.

“The essence of that boils down to the City Council, which sets policy and makes decisions,” he said. “The City Manager runs the City based on policy and budget.”

Almost all Cities use the City Manager form of Government, and he said the job is to run the City’s day- to-day, and that is premised upon those policies and that year’s budget.
