Oxnard--Area residents gained valuable information at the Oxnard Police Department Awareness Fair Saturday, October 8.
THE event brought together the OPD offering traffic safety tips, Interface, promoting children, families, and community safety, and the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office that protects victims.
The Fair had great prizes, including kids’ bike helmets, an electric bike raffle, and more.
The Awareness Fair had a special guest, seven-year-old Brooklyn Duske, accompanied by her grandmother Peggy. Brooklyn is a domestic violence victim who is moving forward despite losing her mother and father in a murder-suicide.
“On October 17, 2016, my daughter Janet Huntington was murdered in a domestic violence incident in her home by her husband, who committed suicide in front of her brothers,” Peggy said. “She left three children.”
The courts awarded Brooklyn to Peggy on October 17, 2016, and said the youngster gets Peggy through the ordeal to this day.
“I’m enjoying her growing up and seeing what life is going to bring her,” Peggy said. “She is the spitting image of her mommy. A minime. That’s what we call her because she looks just like her mother.”
